Abstract As artificial intelligence tools become increasingly sophisticated and accessible, educators are facing unprecedented challenges regarding academic integrity and authentic student assessment. The unsanctioned use of these tools has created a situation where traditional assessment methods are being questioned, institutional policies are struggling to keep pace, and educators are developing innovative approaches to maintain academic standards. Current research indicates that while detection strategies remain largely inadequate, preventative approaches focused on assessment redesign, clear communication of expectations, and deliberate incorporation of AI literacy into curricula offer promising pathways forward.
